Tharaka Nithi County

Tharaka Nithi County rises from warm lowlands east of Mount Kenya to forests and alpine country on the mountain’s upper slopes. Chogoria is the gateway to one of Mount Kenya’s most scenic trekking routes, passing forest, lakes and dramatic valleys. Nithi Falls and other river gorges provide local nature stops, while tea and coffee farms cover the cooler highlands around Chuka. Lower Tharaka has drier plains and a distinct cultural landscape shaped by mixed farming and livestock keeping. The county offers mountain adventure, waterfalls and rural experiences away from the busier western and northern approaches to Mount Kenya.
