Kitui County
Kitui County extends across the semi-arid lowlands of eastern Kenya, with rocky hills, seasonal rivers and wide acacia country. Nzambani Rock is a prominent outcrop near Kitui town reached by a stairway and valued for its panoramic views and local legends. Mwingi and South Kitui national reserves preserve remote dryland habitats linked to the wider Tsavo ecosystem. Kitui town is a centre for Kamba basketry and other crafts, while farms produce drought-tolerant crops, honey and livestock. The county appeals to independent travellers interested in geological landmarks, traditional craftsmanship and lesser-visited landscapes away from Kenya’s main safari circuit.
