Laikipia County

Laikipia County occupies a high plateau northwest of Mount Kenya, with Nanyuki as its main visitor gateway. The region is known for private and community conservancies that protect wildlife while supporting local livelihoods. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to the world’s last two northern white rhinos and an important black-rhino population. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, partly associated with the wider northern conservation landscape, is known for rhinos and Grevy’s zebras. Across Laikipia, open ranchland, river valleys and views of Mount Kenya create varied safari scenery. Activities range from game drives and guided walks to horse riding and visits focused on conservation.
