Tana River County
Tana River County follows Kenya’s longest river through southeastern drylands to a broad delta on the Indian Ocean. The Tana River Delta contains wetlands, grasslands, mangroves and rich birdlife shaped by seasonal flooding. Riverine forests farther upstream shelter the endangered Tana River red colobus and Tana River mangabey within and around the primate reserve. Kora National Park preserves rugged wilderness beside the river and is linked to conservationist George Adamson. Hola is the county headquarters. Visitors encounter Pokomo farming, Orma pastoralism, fishing communities and a changing landscape where wildlife, agriculture and water depend closely on the river.
