Baringo County
Baringo County lies in the central Rift Valley and is shaped by lakes, escarpments and semi-arid plains. Freshwater Lake Baringo supports hippos, crocodiles and abundant birdlife, while saline Lake Bogoria is known for hot springs, geysers and large flamingo gatherings when conditions are favourable. The Tugen Hills rise west of the lakes and contain important archaeological sites and scenic viewpoints. Community conservancies around the lakes protect wildlife and support local livelihoods. Kabarnet is the county headquarters and a useful base for exploring this varied landscape of wetlands, volcanic features, pastoral communities and Rift Valley scenery.
