Nakuru County

Nakuru County lies in the Great Rift Valley, northwest of Nairobi. Lake Nakuru National Park is known for rhino conservation, woodland wildlife and birdlife, including flamingos when conditions suit them. Farther south, freshwater Lake Naivasha supports boat trips and views of hippos and waterbirds. Hell’s Gate National Park has cliffs, geothermal landscapes and routes that can be explored on foot or bicycle in designated areas. Menengai Crater overlooks Nakuru city from a vast volcanic caldera. The county is a convenient base for Rift Valley scenery, wildlife, hiking and weekend escapes, with frequent road links from the capital.
